Shri Kamal Nath, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, has launched the e-filing of Patent & Trademark applications, at a function organised by the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP), here today.

With the launch of e-filing facilities the Minister stated that applicants can file their patent and trademark applications from anywhere in the world at any time at their convenience through Internet. Payments can also be made through the Payment Gateway of authorised bankers, which would save time and money and the hassles involved in visiting and filing the applications in the offices. Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Minister of State for Industry and Dr. Ajay Dua, Secretary (DIPP), were also present on the occasion.

Shri Kamal Nath expressed hope that eventually the complete process of grant of patent or registration of trademarks will be on-line and the Indian Patent and Trade Mark Offices will function almost as paperless offices.

This will be achieved in a time span of about two years. The modules for the e-filing and on-line processing have been developed by the National Informatics Centre. The payment gateway is currently provided by the State Bank of India. (via: Press Release)

Though this news was on major news portals, none of them actually gave the actual location/URL for this new application. So I spent around 15-20 minutes googling around and finally, found out the exact location/URL for this application. This application is under Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The way government websites are created/maintained its just a nightmare to find out what you are looking for.

If you google "Ministry of Commerce and Industry, you get totally different website and there was no comment/note about this new e-filing application. So finally after searching, I found out the actual website which is http://ipindia.nic.in/. This is where you get links for e-filing of patent applications and e-filing for trade marks application. Below are the links if you need direct access.
