The navigation system provides all users with continuously updated, real-time content and geographical data via the wireless network using EDGE/GPRS. To start with, the application shall be available on BlackBerry 8800.The Airtel user can avail map information and area coverage details of the following cities - Delhi and NCR (Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad), Bangalore, Mumbai & Navi Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Chandigarh.
Currently Airtel is offering a six months free trial for all its BlackBerry 8800 users. You still have to pay for the data download charges as this service uses the GPRS. To download the application, Airtel BlackBerry 8800 users need to send ‘NAV’ as a SMS** to shortcode ‘3636’ (via: Release)
Though this kind of services are available in western countries, this is the first of its kind in India as per my knowledge. I have not heard of any other cellphone operator to provide such feature. And I might be wrong here based on my lack of knowledge. If you guys know any other provider, let me know.
Give it a try and tip me off about the experience.
