Billions of Indians now will be traced out based on their addresses. India Post office will now create a directory that can map where you are living and where have you been living for the last five years. India Post is planning to collate National Address Database as part of the 11th Five Year Plan.
Says S Samant, chief general manager for Business Development at the Department of Posts, ”In this data we will not only have the person who is living in the house, what is the profession he is following and what is his age group. These are things our postman observes everyday.”
Eventually the data will be geo coded and can be plotted on the map. According to S Samant, it will take three years to collate this data. Check out this video from LiveMint
It is a good move from India Post but the question is, how can you geo code Dharavi? what about the millions of people who are living in those slum areas?
