Information Madness

We sometimes ignore the fact that running a small light in the hallway or keeping a computer on for the whole day can consume lot of electricity. I have a habit of keeping my computers ON all the time. Its because we don't know in our regular electricity bill, we don't know how much we spent because of keeping that computer always on.

It would be nice if we can actually measure how much each electrical device consumes on a daily basis and then can analyse where we can cut down our electricity bill. Google is working on a prototype software that will receive information from utility smart meters and energy management devices and provide anyone who signs up access to her home electricity consumption right on her iGoogle homepage.

The software is called Google PowerMeter which will allow you to analyse on how you use energy and what you can do to be more efficient. You can also share information with your neighbors such that you can see how your energy consumption compares to your friends and neighbors.

I am pretty sure it is for US consumers only but don't you think that countries like India that has energy crisis all the time should be the one to have such intelligent softwares?
