MTNL will become the first mobile company in India to launch 3G mobile services in New Delhi on Thursday. MTNL has been a pioneer in many services like Broadband, VoIP (MTNL Pigeon VoIP Call World For) and IPTV.

So finally the 3G era has begun in India. What is 3G anyways? 3G is the third generation of tele standards and technology for mobile networking. You can say that what broadband is for internet at home, 3G is for mobile phones. 3G cellular technology will bring wireless broadband data services to your mobile phone.

So using your mobile phone on 3G networks you can speed through Web pages, enjoy streaming music video, watch on-demand video programming, download and play 3D games, and videoconference with your fellow chatterers. So that means we will see more IPTV services, VoIP services in India. 

MTNL is planning to launch 3G services initially in Delhi and then Mumbai after two months. So Mumbai, prepare for 3G services by March 2009. According to The Hindu  the network in Delhi, however, is not fully complete yet. The service will be restricted initially to the New Delhi Municipal Corporation area and National Capital Region of Gurgaon.

If you are an existing premium customer, you can avail the 3G services for free for first two months on trial basis.
