You might have noticed sometimes that when you do a google search, it gives you an option to view PDF files or Power Point slides as an HTML. Thats the case even when you get those kinds of files as an attachment in Gmail.
Amit @Labnol explained how you can convert your scanned PDF files into text files using this technique. According to the article, you can create a directory on your website where you can put all those PDF files and in that directory create an index.html which links to all those PDFs. When google indexes your site and that folder, you can later search it like "content site:yoursitename.com filetype:PDF".
But what if you don't have a website? I am pretty sure not everybody owns a website. So here is a trick that you can do to get the same result.
If you have a Google account, go to Sites.google.com. Login (if you are not logged in already) and create a site. Its very simple step to create a site. Make sure you make the site public (Everyone can see it)
- Once you create a site, it gives you an option for "Attachments". Attach all your PDF files.
- Now Click on Edit the page button.
- Click on the "Link" from the editor toolbar and in the search box, search for the PDFs that you have attached
- Once you find the PDF, select it and it will create a link to that PDF on your home page.
- Repeat the steps for all the PDFs that you want to convert
Wait for Google to index your sites pages. When you want to see the converted file, search in the google like "your pdf content site:sites.google.com/yoursitename filetype:PDF"
