If you think that one can do everything with his/her computer, here is one more proof for that. Now you can even receive regular phone calls over your favourite instant messenger e.g. Google Talk or Yahoo. I just found out this article written by Shyam on how you can get free US Incoming Number and receive calls totally free right on your instant messenger.
Routing your incoming calls to SIP Proxy or IM can be easy but if you want to do it free would be tricky.
So what's the magic?
- Open your GoogleTalk and invite service@gtalk2voip.com
- Go to GTalk2Voip.com and request an invitation.
Once you are in IM session with GTalk2VOiP in your IM client and type “MYPAGE” without quotes. It will send an URL which is the settings page for your account. Launch your browser to that url: shown in the IM conversation. That page will have the information about your account and SIP number.
Now you have the SIP information for your GTalk2Voip and need one incoming free number to route that call to your IM Client. Refer to my previous post about Set Up Free VoIP Phone With Free Incoming Number. In that post you will find that you can configure your SIP with IPKall.com.
Once you have done the above steps, anyone who calls you on that number, you will receive a call on your instant messenger. Remember this is only for receiving calls and not to make any calls.
So enjoy your free calls to your instant messenger.
